Five rules, published before the first story.

These are the rules every piece on Nashur is held to, on both desks, printed here before the first story runs so there is something to hold us to.

The five rules

  1. 01Every story has a named byline

    Someone on our desk wrote it and answers for it. No anonymous house copy and no invented experts.

  2. 02Claims carry their sources

    Figures, contracts and quotes are sourced in the piece. Anonymity is granted for risk, not for convenience, and where a name is withheld the story says why.

  3. 03An editor reads it before it runs

    Every story is read by a desk editor before publication. On defense that read includes a specific check for operational detail that could put people at risk.

  4. 04Corrections stay on the page

    We correct at the top of the story, dated, describing what was wrong. Nothing is quietly edited and nothing is deleted.

  5. 05Commercial work is labelled, always

    Advertising, sponsorship and partner content are labelled where they appear. None of it buys coverage, and no advertiser sees a story before it runs.

What we do not publish

Short and specific on purpose. A vague list is unenforceable and an infinite one goes unread.

  • Unsourced allegations against named people or companies
  • Content targeting a private individual
  • Sexual content
  • Operational detail that would put people at risk
  • Undisclosed paid content
  • Attacks on the rulers or the political system of the countries we report from. We operate here, and that is a condition of operating here

Independent of the people we cover, and of the people who pay us.

A newsroom this close to the industries it covers has a specific failure mode: it becomes a channel for whoever has something to announce. The 5 rules above are how we stay on the right side of that line, and the corrections list is how you can check we did.
